MIMS6110 - Introduction to Medical Science

This module is a three-week orientation course aimed at providing new medical students with a basic understanding of the fundamental aspects of medical science. The course covers various topics through a blended learning approach that includes lectures, seminars, project-based learning, and practical sessions. The curriculum is designed to help students build a strong foundation of knowledge and skills, equipping them to better understand and apply the more specialized information they will encounter in later years of their MBBS program. The focus is on the key areas of foundation of medical science and learning methods.

What's included?

Foundations of Medical Science

This module provides first year medical students with a broad foundation in the historical, ethical, practical, and professional aspects of medicine. It covers the evolution of medicine, surgery, and nursing; major milestones and medical luminaries; global health priorities like the Sustainable Development Goals; and key wellness concepts including physical and mental health. 

Develop Essential Academic & Professional Skills

Students develop essential academic and professional skills through topics such as time management, reliable information use, teamwork, and collaborative learning via TBL and PBL. The module also introduces faculty facilities, expectations in medical school, and the integration of hard competencies with soft skills to prepare students for holistic, patient-centered care in the modern healthcare environment.

Dr. Ye Htut Linn

I am a medical doctor and pharmacologist from Myanmar with experience in clinical practice, academia, and the pharmaceutical industry. I currently serves as a Lecturer in Department of Pharmacology, Faculty of Medicine at MAHSA University, Malaysia, bringing a practical, multidisciplinary approach to medical education.
